On February 28th, 1977 the Music and Art Block were officially opened by the Architect Sir Robin Nugent and the Headmaster Rev. Fr. Peter Murtough
The article concluded with:
'After the ceremony, which consisted of the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, there was a short concert of music, in which Stephen Hicks, himself an ex-pupil of Nadia Boulanger, played the Bach Prelude and Fugue in G on the new small practice organ.
The College Choir then sang a section from the Monteverdi Vespers and the Handel Coronation Anthem "Zadok the Priest". The concert was followed by refreshments, held in the Art Room, for the specially invited guests. These consisted of representatives of the St George's College Society, who so generously are supplying the furnishings and equipment, the Choir Society Committee, friends and notable local musicians.
In the end the "biggest non-event of the year" (my expression) turned out to be a very pleasant, family affair, which everyone was determined to enjoy.'
